HEIDI FISHER
This is the Bavarian flag. Bavaria is the southern part of Germany.
Once a music major, German native, Heidi Fisher found herself wanting to work and be around children. It took a couple of years but she realized that music should remain as her outlet, not her career. She tried putting the two together, "I thought to myself, maybe I could teach music! But it just didn't fit for me. I enjoy writing songs and performing them, not TEACHING songs or music." She graduated from the University of Akron in 2007 with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and Child Psychology.
Shortly after graduation, Heidi found a temporary subbing position at Windfall School. This school is designed for children with special needs only. "This was my first professional job and I am so glad that it was. It opened my eyes and made me realize that these children are amazing and this is where my heart lies." So she decided to go back to school and get her Master's degree in Special Education.
Before she went back to school a job opportunity came up. She was offered a position in South Carolina. "I really wanted to move and get some experience. When I found out that I would be living in Hilton Head, SC I took the job right away!" Heidi taught at Ridgeland Elementary School in Ridgeland, SC for 3 years. Her first year she taught first grade, the last two years she taught kindergarten. Ater becoming very ill, she decided to move back to Ohio where her immediate family is close by.
Heidi is currently studying for her master's degree in Special Education at The University of Akron in hopes of becoming a Behavior Analyst. "My long term goal is to become a Behavior Analyst for children. As for now, I still love teaching and I always will be a teacher at heart." She has returned to Windfall School, teaching, but is also learning many things from the students.
In her spare time, Heidi enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and music. She loves Hogan, her dog! "He is always with me, unless I am not able to take him." Hogan is becoming CGC certified, by April 2012 he will be a therapy dog! Heidi also has a chocolate lab named Uschi and a west highland terrier named Casper.
